Privacy Policy

Overview

NoRu filters search results locally in your browser. The developer does not receive your search queries, browsing history, search-result content, personal rules or hidden-link history. NoRu has no analytics, advertising or cloud synchronization.

Extension data

The NoRu Chrome and Firefox extensions store settings, personal blocked domains, exceptions, connected filter lists, and up to the 1,000 most recent hidden links (limited to 1 MB) in local extension storage. An entry can include its URL, title, domain and time. You can clear hidden-link history from the popup. Extension data is deleted when the extension is uninstalled.

Userscript data

The Safari userscript (iPhone, iPad and Mac) and optional Android userscript store switches, blocked domain names and exceptions using the userscript manager's storage. If the manager's API is unavailable, a script may use local storage associated with the search website. These userscripts do not keep a hidden-link history, fetch remote filter lists or send search queries to the NoRu developer. Userscripts and Violentmonkey are third-party applications with their own privacy practices.

Network access

NoRu does not send filtering data to the developer. Only when you explicitly choose to load an external text-based filter list can the desktop extension request it from the HTTPS URL you supply. The external server receives a regular network request and may see your IP address. Search queries and history are not added to that request.

Permissions

The storage permission stores local settings and history. activeTab helps the desktop popup identify the current tab and suggest its domain. Access to supported search engines is required to filter results. Optional additional website access is requested only for a user-selected external list.

Diagnostics

If NoRu cannot recognize a search-results page, desktop extension users may choose to save a diagnostic JSON file. It is never sent automatically and does not include search-query text, search-result titles or filter-list contents.

This website

The static NoRu website uses no analytics, accounts or application tracking cookies. Its hosting provider processes connection information as needed to serve pages and downloads. Store and support links lead to third parties governed by their own policies.
